Job description

Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in product design or UX.
• Experience with prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Rive, After Effects, or Cinema 4D).
• Experience designing multi-modal, screen-based, or 3D spatial interactions.
• Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).
Preferred qualifications:
• Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 12 years of experience in product design or UX.
• Experience with bi-directional attention systems, spatial interaction, or exhibition design.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., Engineering, Product Management, Research) to ship products across multiple platforms.
• Experience leading design projects and working in complex, highly ambiguous problem spaces.

As an Interaction Designer, you'll apply user-centered design methods to craft industry-leading user experiences from concept to execution, working with design partners to evolve the Google design language to build beautiful, innovative products.
We are defining a new paradigm where AI interactions feel intuitively human rather than programmatic. You will collaborate closely with researchers to navigate complex interaction frontiers, balancing aesthetic craft with rigorous Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) principles. As an Interaction Designer on the team, you will solve ambiguous problems involving screen-based and spatial interactions, shaping how these intuitive experiences are delivered in a variety of contexts.
Labs is a group focused on incubating early-stage efforts in support of Google’s mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our team exists to help discover and create new ways to advance our core products through exploration and the application of new technologies. We work to build new solutions that have the potential to transform how users interact with Google. Our goal is to drive innovation by developing new Google products and capabilities that deliver significant impact over longer timeframes.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
US: $188000 - $274000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities
• Drive the development of innovative design solutions to solve highly ambiguous problems involving multi-modal and spatial interactions.
• Architect scalable platforms and design systems that adhere to core UX standards while allowing for customizable experiences.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including Engineering and Research, to ship industry-leading product experiences across multiple platforms.
• Establish frameworks for user interactions across varying hardware constraints, balancing aesthetic craft with rigorous HCI principles.
• Influence stakeholders across functions to gain support for design strategies and navigate the complex interaction frontiers of AI.
