Data Center Operations Lead, Sovereign Operations, Hampshire or Wiltshire
Job description
Must be a British citizen to meet compliance and security clearance requirements. Office location can either be a satellite site in Wiltshire or Hampshire, with occasional travel to London. Minimum qualifications:
• Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 9 years of experience working in mission critical facility maintenance and operations.
• Experience forecasting technical requirements using data.
• Experience with reliability centered maintenance and Engineering.
• Active, or the ability to obtain, a Developed Vetting (DV) UK security clearance.
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience managing vendor relationships, including performance management.
• Experience of sovereign UK security controls and requirements.
• Experience communicating effectively with all levels of the organization, including senior executives.
• Understanding of power and HVAC requirements for high-availability data centers.
• Understanding of start up/commissioning processes.

The UK Sovereign Operations (SovOps) team in Google Public Sector delivers, operates and secures private cloud services. We aim to provide the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of public cloud for customers with exceptionally high security requirements that can only be met in a private cloud environment. We deliver and operate these private cloud deployments for the most critical customers, helping scale, secure and maintain the deployment whilst working closely with Google Cloud product teams to continually improve our technology.
As the Data Centre Operations Lead, you'll be involved in tactical and strategic operations of several UK colocation facilities, as well as managing several operations centres used for operating air-gapped clouds. You'll own and manage relationships with the colocation provider, to plan, coordinate and communicate all operational and project work. You will lead the fit out projects for new colocation facilities to meet capacity demands, and manage multiple projects with high degree of complexity and scope. You will also be commissioning new compute, networking and storage equipment in the halls to bring online new capacity. You will work closely with teammates in SovOps to plan for new capacity and coordinate with hardware suppliers to handle logistics for expansion.
Responsibilities
• Act as the data center site lead for multiple colocation provider data centers and UK SovOps team’s Operations Centres.
• Own the relationship with data centre providers, actively managing colocation providers against KPIs.
• Manage the schedule of DCOps work across the colocation providers, scheduling changes, operational risk assessments and communicating with internal stakeholders.
• Support any new site selection process through operational and technical knowledge.
• Lead colocation data center fit out and IT equipment commissioning, ensuring Google standards are met
