Director, Global Communications
Job description
The Director, Global Communications will serve as a strategic communications leader supporting Universal Film's corporate communications and media relations efforts. Partnering closely with senior communications leaders and stakeholders across the division distribution, home entertainment and film labels, this role will help shape and execute communication strategies that elevate the organization’s reputation, business priorities, and executive visibility.
The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with strong execution, anticipating opportunities and challenges while delivering measurable impact. They are equally comfortable developing communications strategies, counseling stakeholders, managing complex issues, and driving alignment across a matrixed organization.
Strategic Communications & Media Relations
• Develop and execute strategic communications programs that support Universal Film’s business priorities
• Monitor industry, competitive, and cultural trends, identifying opportunities and risks that may impact the organization
• Partner with business leaders to proactively develop communications strategies that connect business priorities to broader NBCUniversal objectives
• Contribute thought leadership ideas, storytelling opportunities, and innovative communications approaches that strengthen visibility and engagement
Execution & Impact
• Serve as lead on division priorities including coordination across the enterprise including Government Affairs, Legal, MPA, HR, Global TV Distribution, Film Music, Talent Development, AI and Innovation
• Collaborate and coordinate editorials and issues with Focus, DreamWorks and Universal Theatrical Group
• Draft and oversee communications materials, including press releases, messaging documents, presentations, and executive communications
• Serve as support and partner with the lead for other media relations efforts, including box office reporting, transactional communications, executive visibility initiatives
• Manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of quality, responsiveness, and follow-through
• Maintain and update team calendar of initiatives including speaking engagements, awards submissions, editorial and event calendars
• Oversee and coordinate industry coverage reports for team, including key financial events like earnings and investor conferences
• Manage media lists and media list databases with a focus on updating in real-time to keep the team informed in a timely manner of all reporter and outlet changes

• Influence and align stakeholders around communications strategies and shared objectives
• Coach and develop junior team members while contributing to a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning
• Exercise sound judgment and discretion when managing sensitive business issues

• Seek opportunities to continuously evolve communications capabilities and elevate business impact
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
• 7+ years of communications, media relations, public relations, or related experience
• Bachelor’s degree in business, communications or journalism preferred
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing complex communications strategies
• Solid business acumen and ability to connect communications initiatives to organizational priorities

• Exceptional writing, messaging, presentation, and storytelling skills
• Experience managing high-profile projects, issues, or corporate reputation initiatives

• Entertainment, media, studio, agency, or related industry experience preferred
Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the Universal City, CA office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
