Job description

Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 7 years of experience in Research Collaboration, academic relations, or partnership management within technology, research, or non-profit sectors.
• Experience designing and operationalising research collaboration programs and external funding programs.
• Experience developing and executing convenings or events for scientific, academic, or policy audiences, and translating goals into practical operations and end-to-end delivery frameworks.
• Experience managing projects and engaging with external key opinion formers.
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience sourcing and managing external funding for research initiatives.
• Familiarity with the Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) landscape and its socio-technical implications.
• Strong track record of engaging with policymakers, think tanks, and academic institutions to shape policy or inform decision-making.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous environments, balancing high-level strategy with direct execution.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to create impactful campaigns that reach target academic groups.
About the job
We are seeking an Research Collaboration Lead to mobilise and manage the DeepMind Institute’s (DMI) convening and research collaboration programs. In this dual-focus role, you will build and execute the frameworks needed to connect DMI with key academic, scientific, and policy communities. You will design strategies to bring together key opinion formers, fund critical research, and manage the end-to-end operational delivery of these programs. By bridging high-level strategy with practical execution, you will help position DMI as a responsible, leading voice in Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) socio-technical research, informing policy and building public trust. Responsibilities
• Lead the strategy and end-to-end operations for DMI’s external convenings and research collaboration programs.
• Design convening strategies to engage target key opinion former (KOF) communities, advancing DMI’s research agenda and establishing our leadership in AGI socio-technical research.
• Evolve and develop our DMI research collaboration strategy, identifying priorities, securing resources, and establishing mechanisms to support external research.
• Set up and manage the operational structures, campaigns, and processes to effectively deliver research collaborations and promote opportunities to target academic groups.
• Drive externalization efforts by connecting insights from convenings to inform policy design, educate stakeholders, and build trust as a responsible industry convener.
