• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
• 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
Preferred qualifications:
• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
• Experience developing accessible technologies.
• Proven track record designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems or APIs using Java, C/C++.

User Protections is part of the Privacy, Security, and Safety (PSS) organization in Core, with a mission to keep users safe, at scale. Within User Protection, the Egregious Harms Protections team is responsible for protecting Google from being used in the most severe harms through end-to-end abuse intervention strategies that keep users safe on and off-platform.
The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.
Responsibilities
• Define service and technical roadmaps for the Egregious Abuse Protection domain. Set the direction for building centralized systems that detect egregious material and identify bad actors across Google’s ecosystem.
• Lead the design and review of high-scale distributed infrastructure. Oversee the development of critical components for ingesting signals (Third-party APIs, NGOs, user reports) and building high-fidelity repositories for content identification.
• Drive accountability for code quality, testing, and system operability. Establish and maintain Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and domain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure the reliability of safety-critical systems.
• Own the end-to-end execution of large-scale projects, ensuring the team delivers heuristics, machine learning integrations, and data analysis tools to combat real-world harms (CSAM, Child Endangerment, and non-consensual imagery).
